  • Take a central role in supporting young people to develop enterprise skills (including work ready skills) that incorporate strength-based practice to succeed in life and enable them to contribute to their communities.

    Purapura Whetu Trust, Odyssey House Trust Christchurch and Stepping Stone Trust have collaborated to codesign and deliver the Te Aukaha Service.

    Our collaboration is seeking to employ an experienced and passionate Youth Worker/Kaitiaki to work with young people aged between 16 and 24 years who have low to moderate needs to develop their enterprise skills and knowledge as well as their work-ready skills. It will use a positive youth development approach and strengths-based practices to increase the wellbeing, capability, skills and connections of young people. The following outcomes are expected of this service for young people:
    • Develop work-ready skills
    • Improved preparedness for the work environment
    • Increased capabilities and core enterprise competencies
    • Increased communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
    • Increased teamwork and negotiation skills
    The ideal candidate will have:
    • Significant experience as a youth worker
    • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders
    • History of working with rangatahi in work schemes, workforce development and training, job seeking and work-readiness support as well as experience engaging with industry and businesses
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Work effectively in a team but able to work independently
    • High levels of knowledge of local entrepreneurial, economic and employment opportunities
    • Have high levels of integrity and professionalism and able to maintain confidentiality and respect for shared information
    • Have resilience to handle stressful situations in a professional manner at all times
    • Be computer literate and competent with Word, Excel, Google Docs and Sheets etc.
    • High levels of cultural responsiveness and an ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tangata Whenuatanga
    • A qualification in youth work or equivalent
    • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence
